Your Tempo is a customizable breathing rate that allows Somnox to align its breathing pattern with your natural breathing rhythm at rest. This creates a more intuitive and personal experience, making it easier to relax during your sessions. Certain Moments in the Somnox app, such as those in the ‘Your Tempo’ category, make use of this setting.

In this article, we’ll explain what Your Tempo is, how it’s used, and how to adjust it to suit your needs.

What is ‘Your Tempo’?

Your Tempo is the breathing rate (measured in breaths per minute) used as the starting point for certain Moments. By setting it to match your natural breathing rhythm at rest, Somnox syncs more naturally with your body, making relaxation easier.

You’ll find ‘Your Tempo’ Moments in the app, specifically in the ‘Your Tempo’ category. These Moments use your personalized tempo to start the session and adjust as needed to create a natural breathing experience.

How is ‘Your Tempo’ used?

  • ‘Your Tempo’ Moments: These Moments start at the tempo you’ve set, providing a natural and familiar rhythm to follow.

  • Consistency: Once you’ve set Your Tempo, it is automatically applied to all Moments that use this setting, ensuring a consistent and calming experience.

How to adjust Your Tempo

You can easily adjust Your Tempo in the Somnox app by following these steps:

  1. Open the Somnox app and go to the ‘Somnox’ tab.

  2. Scroll until you see the ‘Your Tempo’ section and tap on it.

  3. Tap on the ‘Your Breathing Tempo’ block.

  4. Use the + and – buttons to set your breathing rate (in breaths per minute).

    • Tip: Choose a tempo that matches your natural breathing at rest. You can measure this by counting your breaths for one minute while sitting calmly.

  5. Save your changes. The updated tempo will automatically apply to all Moments that use Your Tempo.

What tempo should you set?

We recommend setting Your Tempo to your natural breathing rate at rest, typically between 10 and 16 breaths per minute.

If you’re unsure:

  • Use the ‘flower’ animation in the app to find a tempo that feels comfortable.

  • Count how many breaths you take in one minute while sitting relaxed, for example, on your couch.
